‘Tales of the Trees’, 2018

Driftwood, charcoal

‘We all know that trees are necessary for all life. They take up CO2 emissions and produce oxygens. The Earth’s ancient forests form some of the most diverse ecosystems and are vital in regulating the world’s climate. The rising of CO2 emissions is responsible for global warming, which causes floods, draughts and forest fires’.  The artist is ‘intrigued by driftwood and the story it tells. Trees once full of life, destroyed, either by humans or the natural elements, discarded and shaped by sand and the oceans’. In ‘Tales of the Trees’, the artist responded to issues of deforestation and climate change, appealing to the visual, burned-like, effects of charcoal on driftwood.
